Short description
Shelly Dimmer Gen3 is a single-channel smart dimming controller that allows remote control of dimmable lights and dimming drivers via mobile phone, tablet, PC, or home automation systems. It can operate standalone in a local Wi-Fi network or be managed through cloud-based home automation services. The device supports remote access, control, and monitoring from anywhere with internet connectivity, provided it's connected to the Internet.
It features an embedded Web Interface for monitoring and configuring settings. The device functions as a trailing-edge dimmer switch and can be used with or without a neutral wire.
Main features
- No need for neutral: Can be used without a neutral wire.
- Bypass: Required when used without neutral and load is under 20 W. Helps prevent residual light when off.
- Groups of lights: Supported, but all lights must have identical power consumption (same model and manufacturer).
- Bluetooth: Complies with Bluetooth standard for short-range data exchange.
- BLE Gateway: Enables communication between BLE and Wi-Fi devices.
- Wi-Fi: Connects to wireless networks.
- Wi-Fi Range Extender: Repeats and extends Wi-Fi signal coverage.
- Scripting: Supports custom automation via scripts.
- Basic Schedules: Weekly schedules with brightness, transition duration, and dimming signal flip value.
- Advanced Schedules: Year-round detailed scheduling with time adjustments from seconds to months.
- Auto on/off timers: Allows setting automatic on/off times.
- Local actions: Automation within the local network.
- Webhooks: Lightweight, event-driven integration with other devices.
- Compatibility: Highly compatible with third-party home automation platforms.
- No hub required: Ready for use locally or remotely via Shelly Smart Control or third-party systems.
- Activity log: Stores detailed event history.
- KVS (Key-value storage): Persistent storage for key-value pairs.
- Safety: Overcurrent, overvoltage, and power protection — may not function properly without neutral wire.
- Power measurement:
- Voltage (V), current (A), and power (W) displayed only when used with neutral.
- Power consumption cannot be measured without neutral.
- Night Mode: Set specific brightness levels during nighttime hours.
- Transition duration: Controls dimming speed from 0% to 100% (on) and 100% to 0% (off).
- Minimum brightness on toggle On: Default 3%. Applies when turning on if current brightness is below this level (not applied with explicit transitions).
- Min/Max brightness: Adjusts dimming range for finer control.
- Switch/Button input mode: Flexible control using one or two buttons:
- One-button dimming
- Dual-button dimming
- Button fade rate: Controls how fast brightness changes while holding button(s). Default: 3x.
- Button presets: Default state after double-click: 100%.
- Automatic dimming calibration: Ensures smooth dimming across full range. Must be performed:
- On new devices
- After factory reset
- After changing the load
- Starts automatically on first toggle (physical switch, app, web UI, or RPC command)
- Or manually by long-pressing both buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds
- Calibration lasts up to 2 minutes:
- Success: Light turns on for 10 seconds, then off
- Failure: Light flashes 5 times (1 sec ON / 1 sec OFF)
- Factory reset through switch/button: 5 consecutive toggles within 60 seconds after power-up.
- Virtual components: Dynamically created user-defined components.
- KNX: Supports KNXnet/IP communication.
Use cases
- Retrofit existing lighting systems even without a neutral wire, preserving current switches and wiring.
- Fine-tune light brightness for optimal ambiance.
- Create smart schedules for automated brightness adjustments throughout the day.
- Sync lighting with sunrise/sunset times using intelligent schedules.
- Enable night mode for reduced brightness at night.
- Integrate with third-party systems like Home Assistant, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings.
- Control dimming with single or double button presses.
- Enhance safety by triggering lights automatically when motion is detected via Shelly Motion.
